Overall, the latest update resulted in the addition of around 17 GW of new solar module manufacturing capacity. With these inclusions, the cumulative enlisted solar module manufacturing capacity in India has reached approximately 162 GW.

Expanding ALMM Scope

MNRE is also widening the scope of the ALMM framework. While the ALMM for solar modules continues to be updated regularly to reflect new entrants and capacity additions by existing players, the ministry has increased the minimum efficiency criteria for modules to qualify for inclusion. It also plans to phase out lower-efficiency solar modules to encourage the adoption of higher-performance technologies.

In parallel, the ministry has begun issuing ALMM-II for solar cells, and discussions are underway to introduce ALMM norms for wafers and ingots in the coming years.
