Indian renewable EPC company AB Energia, which recently entered the solar mounting-structure business, is now planning to expand its manufacturing capabilities. According to the company’s top management, its current annual production capacity of solar structures is around 400 MW, and it aims to scale this up to 700 MW soon.

Siddharth Bhatia, MD and CEO of the company, told Saur Energy that AB Energia intends to significantly strengthen its manufacturing operations. He said that in-house manufacturing allows its EPC business to maintain tighter control over quality and ensure timely delivery of materials. With the new vertical, the company also aims to bring greater uniformity to the quality of mounting structures used across solar projects.

Unregulated Market Of Structures 

“The current market is unregulated, with many fabricators, making quality tracking difficult. We are adopting advanced galvanization technology to enhance the durability and uniformity of solar structures, setting ourselves apart from traditional hot-dip galvanizing. We have partnered with a manufacturer to supply machine-painted galvanized iron (PPGI) sheets that offer consistent coating thickness and improved long-term protection. Laboratory tests confirm superior sturdiness and longevity compared to conventional galvanizing. This innovation addresses the long-standing issue of uneven hot-dip galvanization, which can compromise a structure’s lifespan,” Bhatia said.

On the need for more advanced structural technologies in the Indian solar market, Bhatia added, “This approach supports the new generation of higher-wattage panels (e.g., 730 Wp), which require mounting structures capable of handling heavier loads without overspending on unnecessary strength.”

Different Portfolios Of The Firm

AB Energia currently operates as an EPC service provider, with a growing focus on hybrid renewable projects, alongside its new manufacturing arm. The Mumbai-based company also offers IPP services through its subsidiary, Oyster Renewable. When asked whether the company plans to venture into solar module or cell manufacturing, Bhatia said the market appears overcrowded and that AB Energia has no immediate plans to enter these segments.

“The company is deliberately avoiding module or cell manufacturing due to rapid technology shifts and market saturation, choosing instead to focus on fabricating key infrastructure components,” he said.

AB Energia also plans to expand its manufacturing footprint further and explore energy-storage integration to complement future solar projects.
