AFRY India is the Indian arm of AFRY an international engineering, design and advisory company. AFRY has been formed after ÅF acquired Pöyry.

The company has received the contract, in March this year, for providing consultancy services for this Pinnapuram integrated renewable energy pumped storage (IREPS) project located in Pinnapuram village of Andhra Pradesh in India.

Significantly, this is a first of its kind pumped storage project to be developed by an independent power producer in India, and is funded by multi financial institutions and equity partners from India and the Middle East.

Further, the IRESP project is expected to harness the power of solar and wind resources with digitally connected storage infrastructure to provide scheduled and flexible power to the grid.

Also, the total contract value for AFRY is approx. USD 2.5 million and the project is expected to be completed in about 36 months.

Commenting on winning the project, Sai Seela, Managing Director of AFRY India, said “Pinnapuram IREPS project is prestigious, and the first IREPS project in the region, and we are delighted by winning this project. This is an ideal reference to multiple IPPs and state utilities for their various upcoming pumped storage projects. This project will set the benchmark in our credentials for upcoming PSPs in the region.”

With an aim to address the challenge of schedulable renewable power, Greenko is planning 2 integrated renewable energy projects and one among these is at Pinnapuram in Andhra Pradesh. The project consists of 2,000 MW of solar, 400 MW of wind and 1200 MW of hydro pumped storage. It will generate 7 billion units.
