How regulatory timelines shape commissioning

Adani Green has been speeding up the commissioning of solar projects, but some older merchant solar projects are lined up that require Chinese modules. Addressing this issue, Raj Kumar Jain said in a investors call, that under previous bids from early 2021, the company is allowed to import Chinese modules.

He explained that for bids after that period, the company is expected to meet the ALMM requirement if those plants are commissioned after April 1, 2024. Jain explained that Adani Green is managing those projects, including Maharashtra, and many other LOAs require ALMM. He said that similarly, for any merchant projects for which bids were concluded a few months back and where the ALMM requirement applies after that period, the projects would need ALMM, which means cells have to be made in India.

All merchant projects being executed from April 1, 2024, until June 1, 2026, can import cells from outside India. After that, the cells have to be manufactured in India. He said this is the overall regulatory landscape and the basis on which the company has planned its strategy.
