Adani Enters BESS Sector With a 3530 MWh Project at Khavda

Adani Group has announced its entry into the Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) sector with a 1126 MW / 3530 MWh project, which is to be commissioned by March 2026. On completion, it is claimed to be India’s largest and one of the world’s biggest single-location BESS installations. Adani Group has a presence across the renewable value chain, from IPPs through Adani Green Energy, to manufacturing of both solar and wind equipment under Adani Solar and Adani New Energy within Adani Enterprises. Adani Green Energy is the largest green energy developer in India currently.

Roadmap for Large-Scale Expansion

In addition to the 3530 MWh installation, Adani Group has outlined an aggressive expansion plan for its BESS portfolio. The company intends to deploy 15 GWh of additional capacity by March 2027, ultimately scaling its energy storage footprint to 50 GWh within the next five years.

The announcement comes months after Adani visited Contemporary Amperex Technology Co. Ltd. (CATL), the world’s largest manufacturer of lithium-ion batteries. CATL’s TENER energy storage container is one of the leading technologies of energy storage in the market. In May 2025, CATL unveiled the TENER Stack, a 9MWh large-capacity BESS, entering mass production in 2025.

Adani has recently reported that its Portfolio’s EBITDA has crossed the INR 90,000 crore milestone on a trailing twelve-month basis for the first time, with Q1 EBITDA also reaching a record high. With a strong growth in recent times, the foray into BESS has the potential to change the BESS game in the country, considering the size and impact of the conglomerate.
