Indian renewable energy developer ACME Solar Holdings has announced adding 19.8 MW of additional wind energy capacity in its first wind energy project in Gujarat. The Gurugram-based company had initially commissioned 26.4 MW of wind capacity in this project. With the inclusion of the newly commissioned project, the cumulative capacity of the project has reached 46.2 MW. The company has now planned a 50 MW wind project on the site.
Following this, ACME Solar’s operational capacity has been enhanced to 2,826.2 MW. The project is expected to be fully commissioned in the next few days. The project is located in one of India’s highest wind resource regions. This wind project is housed under the company’s special projects vehicle, ACME Pokhran, and is financed through the Power Finance Corporation (PFC). The power generated from the project is sold through the 25-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) signed between ACME Pokhran and Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Limited.
For its maiden wind project, the company has roped in Envision's 3.3 MW wind turbines. ACME Solar's maiden wind project marks a transition in its way of doing business in the Indian renewable sector. The company, which had earlier confined itself mainly to solar energy projects is on its way to diversify with different clean energy projects to bolster its capabilities to take part in different government tenders ranging from hybrid renewable projects, RTC projects and FDRE projects
In-House EPC Advantage
ACME Solar is constructing the wind project through its in-house EPC, making it a margin-accretive project while enabling the project’s delivery within stipulated timelines. The clean energy harnessed through the project is pooled at 33/220 kV pooling station and stepped up for evacuation to the Shapar sub-station using a dedicated single circuit 220 kV transmission line. The project would share the sub-station with ACME Solar’s other upcoming wind power project, which is also in the advanced stages of construction.
The sub-station will also be shared with ACME’s upcoming 100 MW wind project, currently in advanced stages of construction. The electricity from the Pokhran wind project will be supplied under a 25-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Limited (GUVNL).
