The Sultan of Malaysia’s Johar State announced the development of a 450 MW solar PV power plant in the Pengerang municipal area.

The development of a 450 MW solar PV power plant under the 2030 Johor Sustainable Development Plan has been announced by Ibrahim Ibni Almarhum Sultan Iskandar, the Sultan of the Johar state in Malaysia

According to the Royal Press Office of the Johor’s Sultan, he called it the biggest of its kind in Southeast Asia. Also, it will be the region’s largest solar energy storage system when fully commissioned by 2023.

The project to be built in the Pengerang municipal area of Kota Tinggi district of Johor. The press claims that it will be considered as the state’s major foray into large-scale sustainable energy to promote a green economy. The press release also announced the groundbreaking ceremony at the site of the project will take place on March 23, 2021.

The largest solar power plant to be built with an investment of RM 1.4 billion or USD 345 million, and this project will be named ‘Sultan Ibrahim Solar Park’.

Stressing on the success of the project, “The project is described as the state’s 1st major private investment project for 2021, as a result of the Sultan’s continuous efforts to convince the investors to spur Johor’s economic growth for the benefit of the people,” stated the Royal Press Office (RPO).

The world is moving fast towards the incorporation of renewable energy as a key source of energy. Recently, in February 2021, a Singapore based renewable energy corporation B&S Power, and a Nigerian investment entity Sunnyfred Global, have concluded arrangements in collaboration with other stakeholders and Technical Partners, to Design, Develop, Finance, and Construct West Africa’s largest solar PV farm in Nigeria – The Ashama 200 MW solar PV project.
