Kia has launched its first all-electric seven-seater, the Carens Clavis EV, priced at INR 17.99 lakh (ex-showroom). The Clavis EV is reportedly built in India and tailored for Indian conditions.
Bookings for the electric MPV will open on July 22, 2025. With this launch, Kia became one of the first automakers to offer a practical, family-sized electric vehicle in the mass market.
Two Battery Options, Up to 490 km Range
The Carens Clavis EV will be offered with two battery options, including a 42 kWh unit that claims a range of 404 km (IDC), and a larger 51.4 kWh pack capable of delivering up to 490 km on a single charge.
Under the hood, the EV is equipped with a 171 PS electric motor generating 255 Nm of torque. The EV accelerates from 0 to 100 kmph in just 8.4 seconds and supports 100 kW DC fast charging, making it well-suited for both daily commutes and long-distance journeys.
Design Features
Unlike traditional internal combustion vehicles, the Clavis EV is available exclusively as a 7-seater at launch.
The Carens Clavis EV is equipped with several modern technology features designed for comfort and convenience. It features twin 12.3-inch displays that function as both the digital instrument cluster and the infotainment system.
Roof-mounted rear AC vents ensure better airflow for passengers in all three rows. The vehicle comes with an i-Pedal feature that enables one-pedal driving for a smoother and more energy-efficient driving experience.
The Carens Clavis EV also comes equipped with a range of advanced features like Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) support for internal and external use, allowing the vehicle to power external devices or appliances.
Similarly, paddle shifters enable drivers to choose between four levels of regenerative braking for improved control and energy efficiency. To boost aerodynamic efficiency, the EV features active air flaps, and a 25-litre frunk (front trunk) adds valuable extra storage space.
Kia has developed a dedicated EV charging network and exclusive EV-focused touchpoints across India to support Clavis EV owners. The company says the vehicle has been engineered with Indian roads, climate, and driving conditions in mind, reinforcing its commitment to localised innovation.
India: A Growing EV Market
Kia’s launch comes at a time when India’s EV sector is gaining momentum, with Tesla also entering the Indian market today with its first showroom in Mumbai’s BKC, signaling growing global interest in the Indian EV space. With the Clavis EV, Kia positions itself strongly in the affordable family EV segment, filling a key gap in the market.
