Solar Plus BESS Project
Bihar State Power Generation Company Ltd. (BSPGCL) has invited bids to appoint a consultancy firm for Owner’s Engineer (OE) services for a 116 MW (AC) solar PV project coupled with a 50.5 MW/241 MWh (4-hour minimum) battery energy storage system (BESS) at Kajra in Lakhisarai district.
The deadline for bid submissions is August 14, 2025. The project, estimated to cost Rs 1.73 crore, is expected to be completed within 18 months. The tender was issued by Chief Engineer Dilip Kumar, with bidding documents priced at Rs 11,800.
In Line With Bihar’s BESS Push
The latest tender aligns with Bihar’s 2025 Policy for Promotion of New and Renewable Energy Sources, which targets 23,968 MW of renewable energy capacity and 6,100 MWh of energy storage by FY 2029-30.
The state aims to deploy 4,500 MWh of grid-level battery storage and 1,600 MWh of pumped storage, with a focus on improving grid stability, supporting a 24/7 renewable power supply, and managing peak demand.
The policy aims to attract investment, generate employment, and improve energy access and affordability in Bihar. By setting clear, time-bound targets and placing energy storage at the centre of its strategy, Bihar seeks to position itself as a key contributor among Indian states in the transition to clean energy.
Previous BESS Awards
BSPGCL has recently accelerated its BESS development. Earlier this month, it awarded its 125 MW/500 MWh BESS project to six companies at a uniform tariff of Rs 4.44 lakh/MW/month.
The winning bidders were Barbrik Projects, Saatvik Green Energy, Kundan Green Energy, Prostarm Info Systems, Hindustan Thermal Project (Hindustan Power), and Suryam International.
