Job Description

WWF-India, one of the largest conservation organizations, engaged in wildlife and nature conservation in the country, is looking for a dynamic and motivated individual to be a part of its Rivers & Wetlands team. This position will be a part of a highly experienced team doing some pioneering and exciting work on river (Ganga, Ramganga, Bhavani, Noyyal and Beas) and wetland conservation (Keoladeo National Park, Harike, and urban wetlands in Karnataka).
WWF-India’s Rivers & Wetlands team is involved in several initiatives on sustainable water management, wetland conservation, restoration of environmental flows and aquatic biodiversity conservation. As a part of its work on Rivers for Life, Life for Rivers, WWF-India is working in the Ramganga basin with a vision to restore the ecological health. One of the main pillars of the work is to engage with stakeholders to restore freshwater flows in the river by promoting better management practices in agriculture. With this objective, WWF-India will be working with farming communities and other stakeholders in Bijnor, Moradabad, Bareilly, Shahjehanpur and Amroha districts or Uttar Pradesh. This work involves a three pronged approach demand-side, supply-side management and capacity building of water users associations. The incumbent will be engaged in implementation of this three pronged approach in collaboration with key stakeholders-local communities, Panchayati Raj Institutions, technical institutions and Government Departments.
This position will be a part of a highly experienced team doing some pioneering and exciting work on river (Ganga, Ramganga, Bhavani, Noyyal and Beas) and wetland conservation (Keoladeo National Park, Harike, and urban wetlands in Karnataka) which offers unique learning opportunities.

Responsibilities:-

  • Lead the engagement with key stakeholders including the farming communities in the project area. Coordinate with Panchayati Raj institutions and Government stakeholders at block and district level to ensure synergies.
  • Coordinate training, hand-holding and capacity building of farmers on customized better management practices in in agriculture and irrigation.
  • Support capacity building of Water Users Associations (WUAs) by organizing training sessions and exposure visits.
  • Coordinate and lead the implementation of field level activities across the project area pertaining to demand side and supply side interventions. This includes coordination and management of activities like community awareness, sensitization and mobilization towards sustainable agriculture and irrigation practices.
  • Monitor and report project progress and impacts (social and ecological).
  • Prepare meeting reports, technical reports.
  • Carry out any other responsibilities related to execution of activities of the Rivers & Wetlands team as mutually agreed.

Qualifications And Experience:-

  • Master’s degree in Social Work / Sociology / Agriculture / water management (M.A. / M. Sc. / B. Tech.) from a reputed institution.
  • Minimum 4-5 years of field level experience in implementation of agriculture and irrigation water management projects / activities.
  • Sound understanding of agriculture and irrigation in Northern India, the same of western Uttar Pradesh would be an advantage.

Skills and Abilities:-

  • Good interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Documentation and report writing abilities.
  • Language and computer (Microsoft Office package) proficiency in English and Hindi.
  • Ability to coordinate effectively, multitask and to meet deadlines.
