Job Description

The successful candidate will join Ametek – Intellipower global R&D team and embark on an exciting journey towards the design and implementation of the next generation of Intellipower UPS systems. He/ She should be an expert on Digital/Analog power electronics circuits design and have hands on experience. He/ She should be well familiar with different kinds of power converter circuits (PFC, buck/boost, inverter, …). The ideal candidate should be able to work independently and be able to bring a particular design task to life from concept. He/she should be able to handle the products end to end full cycle from design, (MATLAB) simulations , component selection, prototyping, up to the test, and validation. Candidate should have a great understanding of Power Electronics and converters, DSP interface, Digital and analog control loops, Magnetics (both high and low frequency inductors and transformers) and Battery energy storage. Candidate will also bring along a global team player attitude and disciplined focus to handle a variety of support, and design projects in a high velocity, dynamic environment.

Duties and Responsibilities:-

  • Independently design and implement digital/analog power electronics circuits.
  • Test and validate designs.
  • Perform MATLAB/Simulink simulations.
  • Design analog/digital control loops, as needed.
  • Design EMI filters.
  • Lead a team, as needed.
  • Work independently, and part of a global team.
  • Troubleshooting and root cause analysis of circuits.
  • Provide professional reports.

Minimum Requirements:-

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, or related engineering discipline, with focus/experience on power electronics.
  • Ability to analysis compontns stress, requirements, and selecting the right parts.
  • Experience and deep understanding of Power Electronics, controls, and different kinds of power converters
  • Having working knowledge of on-line dual conversion UPSs.
  • A deep understanding, and practical knowledge of power switches, such as MOSFETs, IGBTs, SCRs, SiC technology, and related high frequency applications.
  • Familiar with various control loop designs (e.g. PI, PID, Feed forward etc).
  • LC and LCL filter design.
  • Common and Differential mode EMI filter.
  • MATLAB/Simulink modeling, simulations, and analysis skills.
  • Able to design, develop and test the circuit boards and systems independently.
  • Ability to work independently and be part of a global team.
  • Ability to lead a team, as needed.
  • Contribute to the rapid prototyping for new designs.
  • Trouble shooting and Root cause analysis of circuits and Boards failures.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Global teamwork experience.
  • Can read and understand schematics.
  • Use of Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, Powerpoint) and proficiency in distilling date and generating test reports and presentations.

Preferred Qualifications:-

  • Masters or PhD in Electrical Engineering, with focus on power electronics.
  • Being familiar with Battery Energy storages, and their related circuitry (e.g. Lead Acid, Lithium Iron Phosphate etc.) for back-up UPS power.
  • High power/ high voltage experience.
  • Understanding Parallel Operation, ‘N+1’ UPS, and modular design.
  • Experienced in MIL-STD-461F, MIL-STD-1399-300B, MIL-STD-810G, MIL-STD-167A etc.
  • PCB design and layout using Altium.
  • Magnetic design (Inductor and Transformer including High Frequency).
  • Validation and verification experience.
  • Experience with Soft-switching and resonant topologies.
  • Experience in relevant or similar industries: motor drives, power supplies, etc.
  • Experience with GaN and SiC power components.
  • Experience with EMI design and practical troubleshooting.
  • Complete product life-cycle experience.

  • The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms (keyboarding/data entry, dial phone, sort/gather, file, scan copy documents).
  • This position may alternate between a sedentary as well as mobile role at times in order to follow up with various departments in the company.
  • This position would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bend or stand.
  • Intermittent travel may be required by road and/or air to various clients/vendors and/or subcontractors.
  • International travel may be needed.
  • This position calls for adopting to US west coast working hours on need basis.
  • Occasionally may include heavy lifting and moving of equipment 30+ ponds; overhead lifting, bending, prolong standing, twisting
