Senior Electrical Hardware Engineer

This position is part of the Electrical Engineering team and plays a critical role in the design and development of electrical hardware components and systems used in Atlas weathering instruments. Responsibilities include the development of next generation embedded I/O controllers, power supplies, lamp controller boards, embedded PCs, sensor electronics, and printed circuit boards.

The role requires the application of engineering design principles and technical expertise in electronics, PCB design and layout, embedded systems design, analog and digital, mixed signal circuit designs, and power electronics. It involves being resourceful and effectively communicating complex electrical design projects and PCB layout topics with various engineers.

Responsibilities:-

• Design and develop electrical hardware components and systems for Atlas weathering instruments.
• Develop next generation embedded I/O controllers, power supplies, lamp controller boards, embedded PCs, sensor electronics, and printed circuit boards.
• Apply engineering design principles and technical expertise in electronics, PCB design and layout, embedded systems and analog and digital, mixed signal circuit designs, and power electronics.
• Communicate complex electrical design projects and PCB layout topics with various engineers.
• Ensure designs meet industry standards and regulatory requirements, including EMC/EMI compliance, CE requirements, and IEC61010 standards.
• Collaborate with third-party labs and compliance agencies (UL, TUV) for product certification.
• Utilize CAD and simulation tools (PSPICE, AutoCAD Electrical, MATLAB, Mathcad) for design and analysis.
• Prototype and test new designs, ensuring functionality and reliability.
• Maintain and update quality management systems (QT9, DFMEA, QMS processes).
• Write technical reports, procedure manuals, and other related business correspondences.
• Stay updated with market trends and advancements in electrical engineering to develop innovative products.

Qualification and Experience:-

• Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering
• Minimum of 7 years in electrical engineering and hardware development, particularly in commercial and consumer electronics.
• Proficiency in analog and digital circuit designs, including common electronic components and integrated circuits.
• Ability to modify existing hardware platforms and implement new components and subsystems.
• Experience with embedded processors and microcontroller designs, including MCU firmware development from devices such as STMicro, Silab, TI, ADI, Microchip, NXP, QCM. Comfortable with IDE tools, compilers, and debugging embedded firmware.
• Protocols: Knowledge of Ethernet, RS485, Modbus, SPI, RS232, UART, USB, I2C, I2S, and low-level drivers.
• Comfortable working in a lab environment using tools like JTAG, oscilloscopes, multimeters, power meters, EMI analyzers, FET probes, HV probes, and other benchtop test instruments.
• Experience in PCB layout, schematic entry, routing, EMI designs, and grounding. Preferred experience with Altium, Allegro, or CAD.
• Understanding of AC/DC circuits, switching mode power supplies, buck/boost topologies, flyback converters, linear regulators, AC/DC converters, three-phase power systems, and power factor correction.
• Ability to work on motor controllers, sensor designs, and sensor boards.
• Knowledge of PSPICE, AutoCAD Electrical, MATLAB, Mathcad.
• Ability to develop new products in line with market changes and complete project deliverables within timeline and budget.
• Familiarity with quality management systems like QT9 and understanding of DFMEA and QMS processes.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to write technical documentation
