Job Description

  • The incumbent under limited supervision is responsible for the management of the Sustaining and Alignment Engineering functions of the Deposition and Thermal team. This position provides engineering support  and solutions to ensure the Deposition and Thermal processes maintain their Plant baseline for Product Performance (Efficiency, Stability, Durability), Manufacturing Yield and Throughput in a cost efficienct manner. In addition, this position is responsible for developing solutions and systems to ensure alignment between assets and processes across the manufacturing fleet.  The Sustaining and Alignment function includes but is not limited to management of a group of engineers, technicians, training (engineers and operators), new process introduction, implementation and documentation of sustaining and alignment activities.
  • The incumbent is expected to provide strong leadership to the engineering team, developing training systems, and coaching when changes or improvements are necessary. Manage the task of the plant sustaining department workload, tasks, and priorities, providing the support needed in a 24×7 manufacturing environment.  The person may also be asked evaluate and qualify new process and equipment changes to improve metrics like efficiency, stability, yield, throughput and or cost reduction inclusive of complete documentation.
  • At all times maintain effective team interaction with Manufacturing Engineering Integration, Manufacturing Operations, Development Engineering, Quality and Reliability engineering to involve all needed parties in the successful qualification and implementation of new process changes.  This person will lead/participate in global process and equipment fingerprinting and alignment activities.
  • As needed, the manager will also support equipment replication activities like specification generation, vendor selection and developing qualification plans and support department expense and capital budgets processes including periodic monitoring and adherance to the same.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities:-

  • Responsible to sustain and  continually improve, and document robust solar module manufacturing processes to achieve the highest product performance in a cost efficient manner.
  • Provide sustaining inputs to the New process development initiatives in conjunction with development engineering
  • Daily supervision and quarterly performance reviews of a group of Manufacturing Engineers and Manufacturing Engineering Technicians. Prioritize personnel resources as directed.
  • Provide strong leadership to the Sustaining Engineering team, training personnel on all aspects of process, and coaching when changes or improvements are necessary.
  • Lead the alignment of all sites by implementing systems and developing solutions for site sustaining teams.
  • Responsible to interface with other Company, customer and supplier representatives as needed
  • Evaluate new proposed equipment according to process standards.
  • Reviews process experiment proposals and subsequent results.
  • Develops and enforces standard operating procedures and accurate process description.
  • Maintains effective communications levels and fosters Team Building. Removes roadblocks to the team’s success.
  • Defines and implements corrective/preventive actions and continuous improvement activities as assigned.
  • Adheres to all safety procedures and good housekeeping standards.

Education:-

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering Discipline or Physical Science Field or the equivalent. Masters degree preferred.

Experience:-

  • 5 or more years’ experience in an engineering leadership role.
  • 5 to 8 years of strong process engineering experience in a manufacturing environment, preferred in a high tech manufacturing enivironment similar to semiconductor or photovoltaic industries.
  • Experience with continuos deposition, thermal/ heat treatment equipment and proceses.
  • Glass, Photovoltaic and/or Thin-Film Deposition and Processing experience preferred.

Required Skills:-

  • Proven Leadership skills
  • Knowledge of Manufacturing Processes
  • Knowledge of Engineering Techniques and Practices.
  • Robust Engineering/design of experiments, Six Sigma, DMAIC tools, FMEA
  • Proven expertise with Data Analysis and adept at Analytics Software like JMP
  • Knowledge of ISO 9000 standards and SPC tools
  • Experience with Change Management Systems (white papers, phase-gate reviews)
  • Proven project management performance.
  • Proven Technical Problem solving skills to include inter-personal applications.
  • Possess excellent data analysis and collection skills
  • Possess excellent verbal, written, and graphical communication skills
  • Knowledge of MS Office suite and statistical software
  • Good Communications Skills.

Physical Requirements:-

  • Will sit, stand or walk short distances for  up to 12 hours per day
  • Will climb stairs on an occasional basis
  • Will exert up to 50 pounds of force to lift, push or pull on a seldom basis
  • Will lift, push or pull up to 27 pounds on a frequent basis
  • Required to use hands to grasp, lift, handle, carry or feel objects repetitively on a frequent basis
  • 20/40 vision in each eye, with or without correction, is required
  • Must be able to comply with all safety standards and procedures
  • May reach above shoulder heights and below the waist on a frequent basis
  • May stoop, kneel, or bend, on an occasional basis
  • Ability to wear personal protective equipment is required (including but not limited to; steel toed shoes, gloves, safety glasses, hearing protection, protective jacket or apron and arm guards)
