Job Description

  • To perform Value Optimization Analysis to ensure that the Wind Farm Design & operation leads to the most attractive offer to our clients
  • To perform Mechanical Loads Assessment calculation for the Wind Turbines (WTs) composing a Wind Farm (WF) under an Engineering Works Agreement (EWA) with the customer and achieve Unconditional Conformity Statement”
  • To contribute to the continuous improvement of processes and tools of the whole department
  • Micrositing engineers can specialize in Wind and/or Loads depending on their background and interest; and can have missions either in pre-sales (ITO) or post-sales (OTR) phases.

Essential Responsibilities:-

  • Execute mechanical loads analyses and wind resource assessments for commercial activities and project execution.
  • Deliver best-in-class loads mitigation and performance optimization within the contractual constraints of the project
  • Identify and deliver on ideas for process simplification and automation
  • Cultivate an atmosphere of team building and learning, driving new methods/ideas for loads and performance improvements
  • Effectively communicate to external customers & regulators and cross-functionally to sales, product line, and other GE businesses

Detailed Responsibilities:-

During ITO phase the aim is to design the best possible layout and operation conditions for our customers. To do this, the Micrositing Engineer needs to:

  • Conduct Wind Resource Assessments (WRA) activities from measured wind data
  • Study layout alternatives and WT siting to maximize value for the clients and lower LCOE
  • Estimate Annual Energy Production (AEP) for customer provided layouts and/or GE defined layouts
  • Respond to shifting priorities established by commercial teams

During OTR phase, the aim is to use site specific external conditions to perform aeroelastic simulations for the most representative positions in a wind farm to:

  • Provide the site-specific loads to Tower Engineers for the design of the different towers for the WTs in a WF
  • Provide the site-specific loads for the design of the different foundations to the foundation designer for the WTs in a WF
  • Provide the loads to Ensure Rotor-Nacelle Assembly (RNA) for the WTs in a WF
  • Achieve Unconditional Conformity Statement with certification bodies and local authorities

Qualifications/Requirements:-

  • Experience in aeroelastic loads simulations and/or wind resource assessment
  • Knowledge of best practices and how Micrositing integrates with other technical areas
  • At Least 5 years wind experience

Desired Characteristics:-

  • Master’s degree from an accredited university in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or Physics.
  • Proven ability to work in a cross-functional and global environment
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Working knowledge of aero-elastic simulation platforms: Bladed, HAWC2
  • Working knowledge of wind data treatment, wind farm modeling, annual energy production calculations
  • Experience in metocean data analysis
