Job Description

The role of the Lead Operability engineer includes driving control tuning optimization for reliable, high performance and low LCOE wind turbines products and supporting segment simulation teams by providing control tuning guidance.

Roles and Responsibilities:-

  • Lead Control tuning and optimization strategy for new and existing products.
  • Drive control tuning for AEP vs Loads trade-off optimization, whilst ensuring control stability and availability.
  • Adopt new Controller features and algorithms developed by the Controls COE and tune them to meet Operability requirements for LC Products.
  • Define requirements for new controller strategies to optimize Loads, AEP and stability of the turbine.
  • Support prototype validation by running simulations and/or co-simulations in Flex and/or Simpack to reproduce turbine behaviour and optimize these.
  • Ensure alignment of simulation vs field control configuration settings.
  • Support Operability tuning from ITO/OTR/SVO.
  • Coordinate introduction of new controller releases into the product, ensure validation is completed and ready to be used by SVO team.

Qualifications And Experiences:-

  • Master’s degree from an accredited university in electrical engineering, Control Engineering or Aerospace Engineering.
  • Knowledge of high-fidelity MBS software’s for wind turbine aero elastic simulations (Bladed, Simpack, Hawc2, Adams, etc.).
  • Some years in turbine control/Convertor control tuning and optimizing.
  • Effective problem identification and solving ability.
  • Proven ability to work in a cross-functional and global environment.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills in English.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, leading and influencing skills and a positive energy.
  • Some years of aeroelastic simulation experience for Wind Turbines

Desired Characteristics:-

  • Experience in controller code development for wind turbines.
  • Good understanding of WT controls.
  • Wind turbine system design experience.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills, including ability to work across cultural boundaries in a global team.
  • Product or Project Management Experience.
  • Pro-active thinking & action to ensure quality.
  • Strong issue resolution skills and conflict management.
