Job Description

WWF India is looking for a dynamic and motivated leader for one of its flagship programmes – the Climate and Nature Initiative (CNI) – focusing primarily in the State of Karnataka. The overall aim of CNI is to enhance the uptake of renewable energy in the rural spectrum while promoting low carbon economic development and strengthening climate resilience through a portfolio of Nature Based Solutions with a focus on Karnataka and the Sundarbans.
The aim of this component of the programme is to demonstrate the role of Nature Based Solutions (NBS) in enhancing climate resilience of urban and peri-urban populations around Bengaluru through the restoration and conservation of wetlands and rivers.Working with urban residents, agricultural communities, industries and the government, NBS strategies which complement each other and deliver compounded effects of adaptation against climate change with enhanced mitigation benefits will be developed and implemented.
The programme will focus on building community resilience (water security, flood resilience) to climate change through Nature Based Solutions in Bangalore Urban and Bangalore Rural districts. This will require engagement with local communities, technical partners, think tanks and building synergies with key stakeholders including Government Departments engaged in urban planning, urban water management, agriculture, irrigation, basin management and climate change.
Given the complexities and multi-sectoral engagement required to successfully implement the NBS programme in the identified locations, WWF-India is looking for Team Leader with a demonstrated experience to provide management guidance and strategic leadership. The Team Leader will anchor, manage and steer the work and will be expected to drive the implementation of the programme to deliver its strategic outcomes.

Roles And Responsibilities:-

  • Managing and provide strategic guidance to a team comprising staff, consultants and partners as required for the delivery of the programme and overseeing implementation of programme components
  • Leading the planning, budgeting, implementation and monitoring of the portfolio of projects under the programme
  • Developing an effective multi-stakeholder engagement plan and working across teams and sectors towards its delivery
  • Establishing relationships and partnerships with key stakeholders across relevant sectors to synergize efforts and facilitate integration of NBS in various sectoral plans and policies
  • Ensuring effective and ongoing networking with key partners including government agencies, other organizations/institutions and local communities
  • Internalising and communicating the Karnataka programme strategy to multiple stakeholders within and outside the organization
  • Ensuring regular liaising and communication with project donors and cross cutting teams in WWF-India

  • Ensuring effective implementation of the WWF’s Environmental and Social Safeguards policy jointly with WWF-India’s Social Safeguards team

Qualifications And Experiences:-

  • An advanced degree in development, management, social sciences, environmental sciences, water resources management/policy or a related field
  • At least 10-12 years’ experience in managing complex programmes and leading multi-disciplinary teams. Prior water/urban/agriculture sector experience desirable
  • Proven experience in networking, stakeholder engagement, government and donor liaison, conflict management and policy/advocacy
  • Strong writing and oral communication skills in English and ability to converse effectively in Kannada
