Job Description

  • Systems engineering is a cross-functional engineering discipline centred on an approach, mindset, and process. All activities that consider both the business and the technical needs of the customers with the goal of providing a quality product that meets the users needs. The discipline that executes a robust process of design, creation, and optimization of systems, consisting of identification and quantification of system requirements, creation of alternate system design concepts, performance of design trade studies, selection and implementation of the best designs and verification that the design is properly integrated and executed.     Impacts departmental operations and responsible for planning/execution. The role has some autonomy but is focused on execution of activities within an operating discipline covered by standard functional practices and procedures.
    Some judgment may be required but this is typically with guidance.

  • The GE Renewable – Grid Integration product line is globally recognized for the design, manufacture and supply of custom high voltage direct current (HVDC) solutions for utilities worldwide. With over 130 years of pioneering experience, GE offers two HVDC technologies, Line Commutated Converters (LCCs) and Voltage Source Converters (VSCs), to support a wide range of applications in different countries on land or at sea.
    Each HVDC solution is tailored and designed based on a project-by-project assessment of customer needs, whether connecting offshore wind generation, long-distance power transmission or utility trading. energy between independent power grids.
    In our department we design the control / command / protections of the AC part of HVDC substations. We are responsible for secondary and low voltage (<66kV) engineering, automation and protection. The department’s teams are located in France, the United Kingdom and India.
  • Our Technical project Lead Engineer contributes to our HVDC projects. You will be part of a project team that delivers the “conventional” control and protection system for our HVDC substations and is in charge of the electrical protection systems, interlocks, wiring and oversees the power supply studies for the auxiliary services.

Roles and Responsibilities:-

  • Lead and develop the assigned project team: engineers, technicians, subcontractors.
  • Responsible for quality, costs and deadlines of the perimeter.
  • Prepare and present technical information on substation control systems to internal and external clients.
  • Collaborate with the project manager and other technical managers: installation / civil engineering / system engineering / calculations etc…
  • Lead the Electrical project team during the various design phases in order to produce single lines, principles, technical specifications, detailed plans for control and protection cabinets and connection plans
  • On the basis of the single line Diagram of the sub station and the architecture of the control system, clarify the specifications and refine the technical solution with the customer.
  • Lead the design, arbitrate the choices with the help of our experts and be responsible for the design.
  • Monitor the manufacture of control and protection cabinets and supervise factory tests.
  • Follow the departments standard design practices, engineering reviews and guidelines.
  • Define Control Panel requirements and produce detailed design documentation for the control system using standard design blocks
  • This may include
  • Panel Electrical Schematics (using Engineering Base tool)
  • Wire/Cable Schedules
  • Routine Test specification
  • General Assembly drawings
  • Bill of Materials
  • Oversee the testing and FAT witnessing of the Control System.
  • Assist site activities relevant to the installation and commissioning of the control system.
  • Share engineering information and promote open dialogue.
  • Assure proper documentation of technical data generated for the assigned projects and/or tasks consistent with engineering policies and procedures.

Qualification And Experience:-

  • Engineering degree in electrical or electronic engineering.
  • 8 years minimum experience in an EPC project environment in the T&D, Power Gen, or Oil & Gas industries, with at least 2 projects as an engineer responsible for the business.
  • Good experience in project management and budget management processes, quality, planning, R&O.
  • Motivated to evolve in an international environment & recognizes himself in our key values.
  • Good leadership, listening and communication skills.
  • Good experience in managing technical interfaces and systems integration.
  • Solid knowledge of conventional substation control system design.
  • Solid experience in the design of control and protection cabinets, preferably in high voltage substation or power plant environments.
  • Good knowledge of the control and protection functions of high voltage AC substations
  • Experienced in developing electrical designs for industrial control systems
  • Understanding of Fibre optic Cabling System
  • Understanding of LV Cable sizing and distribution
  • Control & Protection Relay logics design techniques
  • Good knowledge of ancillary services engineering in a substation environment and understanding of design/commissioning of secondary systems.
  • Knowledge of networking and telecommunications.
  • Experience with engineering tools such as AutoCAD, Engineering Base or Microsoft Visio.
