Job Description

Tower Module in Vestas Power Solutions is maintaining and developing the complete Vestas tower program. The tasks range from structural engineering over highly specialized FEM calculations, requirements specifications, DFMEA, test planning and execution to risk assessments and compilation of certification documentation.
Tower Technology is a sub-department of Tower Module. The department is responsible for the technology strategy of the tower module and deliver the needed technological solutions for towers in alignment with future wind turbine requirements, module strategy and module KPI’s like year on year levelized cost of energy reduction (LCOE).
The team is located at 3 different sites: Aarhus in Denmark, Porto in Portugal, and Chennai in India. The team consists of 15+ highly skilled engineers with background in Mechanical/Structural/Civil engineering

Responsibilities:-

  • Identifying & implementing new technology projects in design of towers, tower Internals and tower handling tools for wind turbines
  • Ensure technical policy making to secure progress in the projects and supervise technical reviews
  • Prioritize the technical team’s tasks based on the calculated impact to project targets
  • Identify and mitigate technical risks within the project scope
  • Supervise and align project issues with stakeholders
  • Deliver tower structural calculations/ FEA and assist in developing/optimize designs and design methodologies
  • Deliver the technical solution with quality, time, and cost targets of the project
  • Provide feedback and task design solutions to interfacing systems to optimize product design

Qualifications And Experiences:-

  • You shall have solid proven and relevant experience in design of complex diligently loaded steel structures and the relevant leadership skills to convert knowledge into business.
  • Bachelor/Master’s/PhD in Structural/Mechanical Engineering
  • Professional experience 5 -10 years. (Minimum relevant experience of 6 years).
  • Experience in the design of steel/Concrete structures and for example diligently loaded structures.
  • Solid experience in structural assessments using FEA (knowledge of ANSYS tool is preferred).
  • Experience with design of towers for wind turbines or other mast/chimney structures.
  • Technical leadership skills & Technical project management experience would be preferred.
  • Knowledge about the value chain: manufacturing, transport, installation, and operation & maintenance.

Competencies:-

  • We see the ideal candidate possessing the following competencies and personality.
  • Experience as technical lead on R&D projects and new concept development.
  • Knowledge on bolted and welded Connections, Fatigue analysis, Fracture Mechanics, Buckling Analysis. (Analytic & FEA for example ANSYS Classic / APDL).
  • Design knowledge of concrete structures like foundations and anchor cage.
  • Relevant international standards and requirements.
  • Test & verification of structural steel components.
  • Design for value chain and end to end (E2E) mindset.
  • Experience in working with certification of structures with certification agencies like DNV, TUV Sud etc.
  • Experienced with D-FMEA and P-FMEA processes.
  • Guiding from front’ behaviour.
  • Be process oriented and have a structured way to work.
  • Have good communication skills to convey complex problems to a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Need to display keen commercial awareness and understand the business implications of the technical decisions made during the project.
