Job Description

The Controls & Operability team within the GE Onshore Wind business designs the controls systems for all GE onshore wind turbines. The team supports multiple, concurrent new products and a fleet of more than 40,000 wind turbines across the world.

The Lead Engineer Controls will be part of the Controls Software Testing team at the intersection of Software system, Software development, Hardware Platform and Field-testing team. In this role you will work closely with system engineer to understand the requirements and work closely with controls software/hardware engineers to know the details of implementation and unit testing. You will be responsible for owning the Hardware In the Loop test stand and Renewables Controls lab. You will also be supporting team to write test cases covering various failure scenarios which can be validated on the test stand. You will also be responsible for executing the test cases, identifying the failed test cases and dispositioning the defects/bugs found during lab testing.

Roles and Responsibilities:-

  • Own HITL Test setup used for Wind Turbine Controls Software validation
  • Expert in PIL/HIL testing of sensors/actuators and other hardware’s.
  • Maintain Renewables Controls lab by adhering to all EHS guidelines.
  •  Identify gaps/enhancements for the HITL test stand and plan (requirements, contacting supplier, getting quote and purchasing) for the same.
  • Work closely with Software/Hardware team to execute test cases on HITL setup to have better coverage of the software code.
  • Contribute to the development of the core infrastructure used for Software validation.
  • Develop test cases which can be executed on HITL stand which cant be covered on SIL/PIL platform.
  • Identify and disposition defect found during lab testing.
  • Work closely with system team to align with business-critical software releases.
  • Work closely with field validation team to understand the defects/bugs identified from field testing and how lab testing can be improved to capture those earlier.

Required Qualifications:-

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Instrumentation/Electrical/Electronic Engineering, or related field from an accredited University
  • 6+ years of experience in PIL/HIL testing, verification & validation of control system.
  • Hands on using SIL/MIL/PIL/HIL for Hardware component validation including sensors/actuators.
  • Proficient in Matlab (Simulink/Stateflow) for development and test case creation
  • Fluency in English

Desired Characteristics:-

  • Masters in Instrumentation/Controls/ focus on embedded software development/testing/automation
  • Wind Industry Experience is a strong plus but not a requirement
  • Experience in V&V cycle, hands with test case writing and executing for complex control features
  • Good understanding of hardware testing, sensor integration testing and mechanical components used in industries (gearbox, generator, brake system)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication included demonstrated ability to simplify complex topics and communicate to non-experts
