Job Description

As the successful candidate, you will:-

  • Responsible for the design, drafting, layout, schematics, models and drawings of HVAC, plumbing and fire protection, in accordance with project requirements under the supervision of the Lead Mechanical Engineer. The designer is required to apply experience and specialized/advanced engineering principles at conceptual level.
  • Understand the owner/user requirements and the project mission.
  • Prepare and manage contract drawings and models, record keeping and other statistical work.
  • Prepare 3D HVAC equipment modeling and BIM design using Revit.
  • Modeling of HVAC ducting system as well as duct size calculation
  • Sound knowledge on plumbing, drainage and fire protection services.
  • Layout and line sizing for the plumbing and fire protection system in line with approved codes and standards
  • Heat load calculation for air conditioning system using ASHRAE Standards.
  • Selection of HVAC equipment
  • Preparation of BOQ of whole system.
  • Perform conceptual layout work as well as check drawings and models prior to release.
  • Execute designs following the HVAC, plumbing and fire protection layout design criteria developed specifically for the project as well as the defined regulations, codes, and standards.
  • Apply the design criteria throughout the evolution of the design.
  • Use vendor data, drawings and information to develop and verify the model.
  • Create and maintain check sheets for all equipment as vendor data is received. Back model all changes as required.
  • Ensure coordination with designers and engineers of other disciplines.
  • Perform clash detection of models with other discipline models.
  • Generate 2D drawings from the 3D model as required by the project.
  • Apply attribute metadata to the model per design specifications and contractor requirements as required by the project.
  • In conjunction with engineering staff, produce detailed engineering drawings and documentation for identified and approved concepts/projects.
  • Participation in formal engineering review processes.
  • Conduct operability and maintainability reviews, walk-throughs and HAZOPs.
  • Use model as basis for HAZOPs during the above reviews.

You bring to the role:-

  • Engineering diploma in Mechanical
  • Minimum of 5 years in HVAC, Plumbing and fire protection design experience
  • Sound knowledge in Psychometrics and Refrigeration Cycles, ASHRAE, NFPA, SMACNA, and Plumbing Code, International Building Code
  • Experience within a large project, multidisciplinary DB or DBFOM environment
  • Ability to design in a BIM environment
  • Ability to work collaboratively within the Design Team and with other project stakeholders (ie. Contractor, Systems Supplier, etc.)
  • Weekly model uploads required by the client (designing to the required level of quality is imperative).
  • Detailed design and modeling skills for the layout of HVAC, Plumbing and fire protection system.
  • Understanding of other discipline requirements
  • Proficient and experience in the use of Autodesk Revit version 2020.2.2
  • Autodesk AutoCAD version 2020
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Good safety awareness
  • Strong written and spoken English communication

Preferred:-

  • Experience in Metro rail project for HVAC, Plumbing and fire protection system.
  • Experience delivering for-construction models in a design-build environment
  • Experience in software tools like
    • Bentley ProjectWise version 10.00.03.271
    • Autodesk BIM 360
    • Bluebeam Revu version 2019.1.16
    • Autodesk Navisworks version 2020
  • Experience in the use of procedures and workflows in the execution of projects
