Job Description

The Engineering Technical Leader will be responsible for documenting design requirements, developing clean sheet design concepts to meet those requirements, and completing detailed analysis and validation for selected design concepts. In this role, you will lead Wabtec engineering in completing formal design reviews of assigned equipment. You will collaborate with other internal Engineering team and directly with Manufacturing/Supply Chain to ensure adequate process capability for quality and cost. As production maturity is reached, you will oversee initial builds and develop concepts for future improvements of the design.

Essential Responsibilities:-

  • Provide technical expertise to ensure final system meets functional goals (from concept to production)
  • Lead continuous improvement and cost reduction initiatives
  • Work with cross functional teams to develop a Services strategy for battery packs
  • Supply Chain partner for vendor selection and alignment on cost targets
  • Project management in meeting deliverable due dates
  • Lead development and execution of design Verification and Validation
  • Perform detailed design analysis (FEA, Bolted Joint, Pugh, Thermal Models, CTQ’s, Tolerance stack up, Design reviews)
  • Ability to quickly pivot design direction as new information arises
  • Lead new component development and PPAP qualification
  • Point of contact with Supply Chain on vendor down selection and parts development (PPAP)
  • Lead Pugh matrix development and review for optimized design
  • Leverage 6 Sigma methodologies (FMEA, Weibull, Crystal Ball, Hypothesis testing / DoE, Poke-Yoke, Control plans, Root cause, Solution tree)
  • Create simulation models to predict structural, fatigue, vibration, thermal, and flow performance of new products
  • Solve problems by applying the principles of physics, chemistry, and mechanics
  • Prepare design documentation of calculations, sketches, diagrams, part drawings, assembly drawings, bills of material purchase specifications
  • Collect data on prototype performance and supervise the manufacturing process for their designs.
  • Strong understanding of material properties, sheet metal applications and welding methodologies
  • Willingness to work in a dynamic cross functional environment
  • Drive Safety and act as the voice of the customer in all design aspect
  • Consult with manufacturing and engineering to define optimized manufacturing methods and process details to ensure compliance to internal and external specifications
  • Strong presentation skills (C-suite to all levels of the organization)

Minimum Qualifications:-

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or college in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent engineering degree.
  • Minimum of 8 years of hands-on design experience
  • Experience with aligning design aspects to NA and Global standards
  • Extensive experience in clean sheet mechanical design

Preferred Qualifications:-

  • Experience with battery EHS and safety procedures
  • Experience with robotics and automation in assembly, material handling, welding, painting, etc.
  • Experience developing estimates for material and labor
  • Electrical aptitude
  • Managing Field Services and Reliability projects
  • Prior exposure to and knowledge of Lean Manufacturing
  • Experience with 3D modeling in Teamcenter / NX, Solidworks
  • Adherence to program / project schedules
  • Strong interpersonal skills and team player
  • Leverage 6 Sigma methodologies (FMEA, Weibull, Crystal Ball, Hypothesis testing / DoE, Poke-Yoke, Control plans, Root cause, Solution tree)
  • Six Sigma certification GB/BB
