Job Description

The position is within Caterpillar’s LPSD Integrated Drivetrain Division (IDT) team in India, focused on delivering high quality electric drive systems for the organization. Caterpillar’s IDT designs and manufactures mechanical and electric drivetrain components and systems used across the full Caterpillar machine product line.

The primary responsibility of this position is to evaluate complex and novel electric drivetrain power electronics architectures in terms of techno-economic trade-offs by collaborating with various cross functional internal and external teams. You will contribute to the planning and delivery of projects focused on electric drive for construction, surface mining, underground mining, and stationary / microgrid applications.  Your role will be critical to maintaining technical excellence in the power electronics domain, delivering world-class solutions, and mentoring and coaching team members.

Roles and Responsibilities:-

  •  Work with technical experts across the organization to develop optimal power electronics architectures and configurations that meet demanding Caterpillar electric drivetrain requirements.
  • Apply extensive knowledge of power converter & inverter devices and advanced architectures in fast-paced multi-disciplinary work groups
  • Champion a balanced approach to power electronics solutions that represent the best overall value for the enterprise including leverage through modular, scalable, cost-effective power conversion platforms.
  • Establish and lead the power electronics simulation strategy, including the selection of modeling tools, work flows, and capabilities to achieve high-fidelity results to support recommendations
  • Maintain extensive up-to-date knowledge of relevant technology trends  and collaborate in establishing power electronics technical roadmap.
  • Execute engineering analysis activities with a sense of urgency to support critical NTI/NPI program decisions
  • Lead New Technology Introduction (NTI) projects through key technical and program deliverables
  • Provide regular updates to broader organization on emerging trends and technologies

Required Qualification:-

  • Master’s degree in Mechanical or electrical engineering with at least 12 years of experience in electric drivetrain.
  • Demonstrated understanding of mechanical & electrical systems with special emphasis on power electronics design and electric drive systems
  • Extensive power electronics product development experience (analysis/simulation, design, or test).
  • Excellent organizational skills to track work requests, prioritize appropriately, and present results in context
  • In-depth knowledge of electric drivetrain system, retardation, and braking engineering principles
  • Ability to research, learn, perform engineering tasks, and make technical data-based decisions with minimal supervision
  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills as well as a strong track record for effectively collaborating in a global cross-functional team

Desired Qualification:-

  • Ph.D in Electrical / Mechanical Engineering or the equivalent in experience with evidence of exceptional ability
  • Mastery of theoretical power conversion concepts as well as relevant hands-on experience in power electronics development
  • Previous working experience in EV OEMs or EVSE tier 1 suppliers
  • Experience in DFMEA and DVP&R for EV powertrain
  • Solid background in power electronics modeling, simulation techniques, and system analysis
  • Enthusiastic to explore and develop new technology leveraging publication and journals.
