Job Description

  • The primary responsibility of this job is to plan and supervise the scheduling of daily work assignments of all Waste/Recycling Product Collection and Management personnel.
  • Responsible for training and developing direct reports.
  • Shall provide clear direction to associates, contractors, and vendors to ensure that First Solar’s standards are being met.
  • Responsible for communicating objectives, systems, and policies to direct reports across all shifts.
  • Responsible for working with the appropriate departments to handle employee relations issues.
  • Responsible for the work time management of all direct reports on both day & night shifts.

Roles & Responsibilities:-

  • Primary Job responsibility will be to lead and manage Hazardous, nonhazardous, and other wastes generated, a Centralized Waste Treatment (CWT) facilities operation at the FS India PMT plant.
  • Managing the legally bounded Waste Treatment management in terms of storage, treatment, external disposal, and documentation as per the legal requirement (Hazardous waste management rules, plastic waste management rules, bio medical waste management rules, e-waste management rules, batteries waste management rules etc.)
  • Managing all by-products from PMT is been handled and disposed of meeting both FS & local regulatory standards.
  • Efficient management of non-hazardous and other waste properly to ensure on-time disposal from the facility in alignment with all relevant stakeholders.
  • Develop and implement strategies, programs, and treatment processes to reduce/minimize waste disposal costs.
  • Has to coordinate with multiple stakeholders for collection, segregation, and disposal of waste. Able to collaborate with external team to educate and provide awareness on waste minimization & segregation.
  • Continuously exploring available practical and economical technologies and solutions to reduce reuse and treat/manage the wastes.
  • Lead and manage the integration with Recycling/Wastewater/Lab team in order to leverage each other to optimize the cost, efficiency, and effectiveness of the CWT and PMT operations
  • Responsible to supervise the frontline plant associates on the day & night shifts, including timekeeping, scheduling, setting goals, and discipline.
  • Responsible for safety & environmental compliance of all direct reports and other associates/ contractors/vendors working in his/her operational area.
  • Responsible for ensuring that all crew members are trained and actually follow all FS & local regulatory EHS policies & procedures (LOTO, confined space, waste container labeling etc.) at all times.
  • Responsible for conducting routine area inspections and holding all associates accountable for strict adherence to all safety procedures and good housekeeping standards.
  • Responsible for the overall operation of the process waste management systems during his/her operating shifts.
  • Ensures that operators properly collect & manage all hazardous materials & waste streams.
  • Responsible to ensure that all crewmembers operate plant equipment & process properly to achieve required product quality & waste stream effluent discharge standards.
  • Maintain all routine operations data documents & develop new documentation/training material for any process changes.
  • Identifies and recommends opportunities for cost savings and continuous improvement projects.
  • Interfaces with internal & external personnel to ensure that all necessary consumable items (containers, spare parts & other materials) are available in a timely manner to support plant operations.
  • Participate as an auditee or auditor in internal audits
  • Responsible for CWT operation and system sustainability to comply with requirements & EHS management system as per ISO 14001 & ISO 45001 requirements.

Education & Experience:-

  • Diploma in Mechanical/chemical engineering with 2-3 years of experience in Hazardous & Nonhazardous waste management systems.
  • More than 2 years of work experience in a relevant field
  • Good technical knowledge of rules & regulations of waste management in India.
  • Experience with dealing with different types of waste disposal vendors
  • Demonstrate positive attitude, coach direct reports & create an environment to foster team building.
  • Shall possess similar/equivalent Industrial experience in handling waste management  & scrap sales (essential)
  • Strong conflict resolution & team-building skills
  • Strong understanding of the waste management
  • Solid understanding of chemical compatibilities
  • Proven safe handling and experience in industrial waste management
  • Possesses leadership capabilities and can lead a flexible workforce.
  • Proven ability to train and develop associates.
  • Possesses good problem-solving experience.
  • Good project management (planning) skills
  • Fluent computer skills in (MS Word, MS Excel)
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal in English & Tamil languages (essential)
