Job Description

  • The role is primarily responsible to oversee the Customer Project Delivery Electrical Design, Engineering, Procurement, Commissioning, and Technical Support of all AC and high-power electrical systems including their PLC and GEMS functionality associated with utility-scale Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) Projects with the flexibility and knowledge to work with the DC electrical battery and power conversion systems as well.
  • This role will be a customer technical Subject Matter Expert and will work closely with the following groups: Software Delivery, Product Delivery, Sales Management, Project Management, Commissioning Management, Suppliers and other various groups to ensure BESS Projects fulfil customer functionality and contract requirements.
  • The role is a member of Wartsila’s internal electrical engineer team, developing, improving, coordinating and deploying systems according to our internal standards and processes and project requirements that solves electrical power and energy problems. You will often need to innovate to meet new challenges.
  • You shall have a solid understanding of fundamental electrical engineering, project management, construction and operational principals and have effective verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • You shall have the understanding and knowledge of international Codes and Standards as well as local requirements based on Project Location. (Grid codes, CE, IEC, EN, BS, AS/NZ, IEEE, NEC, NFPA, UL, IS etc.)
  • You shall have experience and technical ability to read and draft electrical single line and circuit diagrams and schematic and layouts drawings using AutoCAD Electrical or similar software and to troubleshoot and produce studies using PSCAD, PSEE, ETAP, SKM or other engineering software as well as writing technical specifications for Battery Systems, Inverter, Transformer, Switchgear, Control Systems, Cables and other electrical equipment.
  • Willingness and ability to travel up to 10-15% taking part in technical discussions with suppliers and customers as well as the technical commissioning process.
  • Take part in field testing and commissioning activities by developing test plans and collaborating with the field engineering team to execute and troubleshoot as needed.
  • Ability to configure and troubleshoot programmable logic controllers (PLC) and industrial electronic equipment (BMS, inverters, protection relays, etc.).

Requirements:-

  • Education: Graduate/Post-Graduate in Electrical/Power system engineering.
  • Experience: 5 + years of electrical engineering experience focusing on designing & deploying power systems preferably Battery Energy Storage System (BESS).
  • The ideal candidate will be a self-starter that can work both independently and as part of an interdisciplinary global team.
