Job Description

The System Studies and Network Solutions role is undertaking following actions for the support of ACS-COE, Grid Solutions, Focus on Engineering, and give technical support on demand of ITO of OTR. The actions are consisting on:

  • On-going projects:
  • Undertake the Network analysis actions by use of simulation software in the domain of Power System Analysis for ACS Projects.
  • Undertake specific studies like RAM (Reliability and Availability Analysis) & Nosie Studies with use of applicable software tools.
  • Undertake project feasibility and integration studies for renewable & hybrid projects, Grid compliance actions.
  • Undertake grid power quality improvement projects’ analysis and component definitions for transmission and industrial applications.
  • Transverse project, developmental actions:
    • Development of method / template / training to adapt Ge Grid Solutions Engineering to new market, new standard and competitiveness benefit.
    • Support on demand: ITO and OTR

Key Missions & Essential Responsibilities:-

Core Skills and Deliverables for On-going projects:-

The present role will focus on identified actions, such as below.

  • Power systems studies: To perform the Grid connection study for Offshore Wind Farms, Solar Farms etc.
  • To perform the Grid Connected studies for Renewable (Solar + Wind+ Hybrid) in PSS/E which mainly includes Reactive Power Compensation, Harmonic, Flicker, Dynamic/RMS studies, and other relevant studies as per the Grid Code of different country.
  • Understanding of Dynamic controller and its modelling and Python coding.
  • Experience in FACTs, HVDC and filter design.
  • Experience in PSCAD for Wind Farm studies.
  • Hands on experience on carrying out RAM studies for ACS and/or HVDC projects.
  • Hands on experience on NOISE Studies.
  • ITO Power system: make proposal for ITO design method for AC filter TRV scenario analysis of based on PSCAD and Substation Insulation coordination for Wind farms, (link to R&D)
  • Addressing: Offshore wind, HVDC, Solar, AC substation, HVDC Integration
  • Technical domain to addressed: Insulation coordination (lightning, switching, …RMS), Corona effect, conductor heating, load due to rigid bus, flexible bus, electrical clearances, seismic

Add-on skills to be considered positively:-

  • LV & Protection system Coordination.
  • Relay settings and configuration for GE Multilin / MICOM relays.

Extended developmental actions:-

  • To develop design template based on international standard (IEC, IEEE, Cigre), with supporting documents including training material. In charge to investigate / build / collect information and make the proposal.
  • Examples of identified actions:
  • AC substation: IEEE 1427 Computation – AC clearances, the first step is to propose an iterative method to reach the results
  • AC Substation: Update of IEC Clearance reference sheet (IEC 60071-2 & 61936 based) based on ongoing update of IEC 60071-2.
  • AC / DC substation: development of lightning protection template as per IEC 62305.
  • Upgrade of Electro-mechanical Design templates for Bus bars, conductor selection, loads on support structures, earthing design tools and templates etc.

Document & configuration management:-

  • Manages & tracks evolution of input data
  • Track customer comments and answers, along with document resubmission)
  • Ensures conformance of material with specification & documentation
  • Manage return status of project documentation (approved, commented, rejected ..)
  • Tracks & manages identified or potential deviations
  • Manages evolution of customer requirements & associated impacts

Process & Tools:-

  • Deploys Engineering tools (CAD, PDM/DMS,) as per strategy
  • Consulted for the elaboration of the Project Design review plan
  • Conducts design reviews following Engineering management instruction
  • Propose co-engineering platform with partners when relevant
  • Integrate EHS requirements based on project Strategy, and deploy HAZID (Hazard identification) sessions at different project phases
  • Apply Design subcontracting process supported by PEM or PM
  • Implement KPIs defined on engineering process for medium set project
  • Issue nonconformance reports (FAT, Site)
  • Manage nonconformance reports upon issuance

Return of Experience & Knowledge Capitalisation:-

  • Provide data & inputs for project RoE
  • Site/Design return of experience & design validation
  • Support functional knowledge capitalization for dedicated practice areas

Quality:-

  • Comply with Quality Procedures, work instructions and Processes defined at Unit, project level, and in EMH
  • Report or resolve any non-conformances and process in a timely manner

Health and Safety:-

  • Implement design freeze and EHS in design
  • Demonstrate EHS leadership and ensure Zero Deviation Plan is implemented within the team
  • Sets the example by demonstrating the proper acts and actively observes work conditions and behaviors, giving constructive feedback and celebrating EHS effective prevention.
  • Actively participates in defining corrective actions when work is unsafe or when an uncontrolled risk is observed.
  • Routinely observes routines and behaviors of others and provides immediate feedback regarding unsafe behavior and celebrates achievements or safe behaviors.

Performance Measurement:-

  • Discipline provisional document list prepared and aligned with project time Schedule with achievable task duration
  • Discipline Design reviews & Gate reviews plan formalized and followed
  • ROR integrates design part and Mitigation plan formalized and actions status identified (not started, ongoing, closed.)
  • Design management tools strictly followed, and submission of coherent data
  • Discipline workload plan updated on regular base
  • Discipline Design hours mastered
  • Design change process in place
  • Discipline Interface sheets deployed and validated for the project
  • No significant gap in scope and exchange of information between partners or main suppliers from our partners & Suppliers
  • No serious claim from main Suppliers
  • Engineering platform in place when relevant, coordination meetings organized
  • NCR system used for the discipline
  • Discipline document to be attached to the OM&M delivered on time
  • Compliance to Quality processes and procedures and GE policies and procedures

Desired Profile and Experience:-

Hands-on Work Experience:-

  • 5 – 8 years of experience in Power System Studies mainly concentrated to Grid Connection studies for Renewables using PSSE/E is mandatory and having knowledge of PSCAD for Off-Shore Wind Projects
  • Having working knowledge of High Voltage Substation Engineering activity sector, on technical activities in international context.
  • Power System experience on RMS studies and or EMT studies.
  • PSS/E is highly expected (to perform as key user and Grid Compliance studies), PSCAD practice is mandatory.
  • Good mathematic background
  • Practice of Substation Design

Know – How:-

  • Substation design process practice, Substation primary design Engineering, Power System Wind farm contract experience (or Offshore design, or HVDC knowledge) are mandatory.
  • Substation Engineering design sizing (insulation coordination studies, Power Systems Analysis experience) are mandatory.
  • Compatibility (optimization) Instrument transformer / protection systems will be highly appreciated.

Qualification & Requirements:-

  • Technology Academic studies, B.Tech / Masters in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
  • Most suitable candidates will come from the technical stream with an overall experience of 5-8 years.
  • 3-5+ years engineering experience in the ACS Projects preferably in project & EPC type environment in T&D, Power Gen or Oil &Gas industry.
  • Knowledge of Transmission or Distribution industry, international standards & codes.
  • Ability to work Independently.
