Job Description

CEEW seeks to hire a suitable candidate as a consultant in the domain of climate change to foster supportive and informed discourse and prioritization of climate action among stakeholders in India. The consultant will coordinate the development of a medium-term climate change advocacy strategy for Bihar. The range of inter-related functions that he/she will perform include preparation of the engagement and advocacy strategy on climate in India for the state of Bihar, and its implementation through intensive engagement with major stakeholders on identified priority issues as well as strategic outreach aimed at widening supportive discourse on climate issues in the state and in the country.

Job Duties and Accountabilities:-

  • To develop the climate change engagement and advocacy strategy for the state of Bihar
  • To promote proactive engagement, leadership and partnerships on climate action by key stakeholders
  • To support outreach and awareness on climate change issues and interventions at the national and state levels, as well as globally
  • To assist in CEEW’s energy and climate policy modelling research
  • To develop research projects to strengthen and expand the existing programme of research with particular focus on modelling energy demand and supply sectors
  • To survey and analyse the research data using different data analysis software and tools
  • To publish in high quality reports
  • To present research to key constituencies, advisory bodies, conferences & research institutes
  • To develop research networks locally, nationally and internationally in support of research programmes
  • To extrapolate and verify data provided by research analysts/programme officers, evaluate, organise and edit the data into comprehensive standard report forms
  • To develop surveys and questionnaires and to collect, collate and analyse responses using different data analysis softwares and tools
  • To keep a tab on the policy developments in India and across key countries of the world on energy and climate policy
  • To generate knowledge content – blogs, policy briefs in regular intervals
  • To engage with relevant stakeholders, represent organisation and attend conferences and sessions, relevant to climate policy
  • To travel to project sites, when required, to conduct interviews or collect data for different research projects

Location:-

  • Patna, Bihar with regular travel to New Delhi.

Education:-

  • Master’s degree with specialisation in environment management, energy economics, public policy or related field
  • Should have a good experience of engagement with clients, preferably government departments
  • Should have a strong background, including an understanding of research as well as stakeholder engagement

Business Experience:-

  • At least five years of relevant work experience in the field of research/consulting, policy engagement and project management, preferably in the area of energy policy, fossil fuels, renewable energy, climate
  • Strong track record of project assistance and timely delivery of outputs
  • Experience in dealing with public and private institutions

Main skills:-

  • Strong networking and business development skills
  • Strong project management skills
  • Ability to conduct techno-economic analysis, cost & benefit analysis, sound knowledge of basic economic principles
  • Good written and oral communication skills; Good report writing skills
  • Ability to use MS Office application suit including MS Excel
  • Strong analytic skills including research skills
  • Desirable: Relevant publications in the form of reports, peer reviewed journals/book chapters
  • Candidates with a high degree of comfort with local language (Hindi) would be preferred
