Job Description

In this globally significant role, you will take overarching responsibility for delivery and commercial leadership for the Facades discipline in India. In coordination and collaboration with other global facades teams, and other discipline leaders (MEP, Structures, Sustainability, Computational Engineering, etc.), you will also be a key lynchpin in advancing our regional strategy.

Strategy:-

  • Be part of the drive towards excellence in structural engineering and asset consultancy within the group and assist in the developing the business in local market whilst working on projects in India and abroad.
  • Develop the asset consultancy business in offering advisory and design services related to façade engineering.

Technical Leadership:-

  • Develop Technical Specifications and check work/specifications of subordinates
  • Undertake high-level project technical/quality reviews and attend design workshops for projects relevant to experience across the practice, undertake site visits as needed for the smooth operation of the project
  • Contribute to BH-wide initiatives with respect to technical development / market sectors and processes
  • Ensuring ‘design rigor’ is delivered on their projects, and in particular ensuring design QA processes are fully planned and implemented

  • Accessible for technical discussions and develop cutting edge offering using latest computations and modelling tools
  • Develop and offer technical capabilities in façade assessment and review services Act as the lead facade engineer on a variety of projects.
  • Take a lead in developing jobs technically from initial client ideas.
  • Be part of a multidisciplinary team delivering complex facades projects, with the assistance of junior staff.
  • Provide strong design leadership on façade issues to the rest of the client’s design team.

Project Management:-

  • Lead facade projects on behalf of the group (operating as Job or Project Leader as appropriate), taking ownership for sustained and productive client relationships
  • As the business and team grows become in charge of multiple projects across the group, taking responsibility for the engineering solutions while ensuring financial success
  • Delivering a risk managed portfolio; working within agreed capital lock up parameters
  • Reviews job financial performance and adjust resources accordingly
  • Maintain good client relations throughout the job and work with a variety of stakeholders.
  • Ensure projects are run effectively and efficiently from a finance and project management perspective

Team Leadership:-

  • Develop and leads a team on specific projects within the Group (mainly engineers and CAD Technicians)
  • Guiding the team members in order to achieve the project success
  • Support delivery of the team’s Performance and Development Review process

Business Development:-

  • Actively seeks new work from existing clients
  • Assist the Advisory leader to grow business
  • Supporting the group’s marketing goals and plan
  • Develop own Client relationships and secure repeat work where possible, with overall participation of the Group Director
  • Dynamic focus on developing / maintaining business relationship with international architects and other clients in the region
  • Prepare and/or assist in preparing Financial and Technical proposals

Finance and Budgets:-

  • Ensure projects under their leadership are financially successful

Reporting:-

  • Reporting on technical, commercial, financial and people performance of the team as determined by the Advisory leader and country director.
  • Reporting on project performance as appropriate.

Planning & Organisation:-

  • Accountable for effective financial and resource planning for their projects

Essential Experience:-

  • Experienced technical and project leader; track record of successful delivery over a 12 to 15 years within the local industry.
  • Exposure to international work is preferred
  • Considerable experience of Design which should ideally include the majority of the following:
  • Confident designing innovative solutions specific to each building’s form and surrounding environment, by applying knowledge gained through experience working on international projects.
  • Knowledge of weather performance issues.
  • Experience in assessment of the façade works
  • Architectural component detail design including aesthetics.
  • Knowledge of various materials and its finishes in the construction and facades industry and their corresponding performance / application under different environmental conditions.
  • Competent in computer modelling.
  • Capable of developing business with good clientele
    • At least two materials: aluminium, steel, concrete, stone, glass and timber.
    • Awareness of basic weather Performance Issues.
    • Architectural component detail design including aesthetics.
    • Fundamental Building Physics: Ventilation, Solar gain control, Thermal Insulation, Glare control etc.
    • Secondary Structure Structural Design.
    • Knowledge of typical cladding systems, their pros and cons and  available in local market
    • Experience of the practical aspects of handling and fabricating typical cladding materials.
  • Confident designing innovative solutions specific to each building’s form and surrounding environment, by applying knowledge gained through experience working on international projects.
  • Knowledge of weather performance issues.
  • Experience in assessment of the façade works
  • Architectural component detail design including aesthetics.
  • Knowledge of various materials and its finishes in the construction and facades industry and their corresponding performance / application under different environmental conditions.
  • Competent in computer modelling.
  • Capable of developing business with good clientele

Desirable Experience:

  • Glass structural design.
  • Experience of the practical aspects of handling and fabricating typical cladding materials.
  • Good awareness of the problems and constraints of the other major design disciplines such as Architectural, Structures, Services, Fire Engineering, and Acoustics etc.
  • Involvement with academic bodies.
  • Well practiced mentor of junior engineers

Experience and Qualification: 

  • Degree qualified in Architecture or a relevant Engineering discipline (Civil, Structural or Mechanical Engineering).
  • Post-graduate degree or Masters qualified ideally
  • Chartered with a relevant institution, e.g. IStructE, IMechE, ICE or CIBSE
  • Must be English Speaker and possess good business English communication skills
  • Mobility to travel in role
  • Additional language skills
