KERC issues an order revising tariff payable for solar rooftop and small photovoltaic power plants

KERCKarnataka Electricity Regulatory Commission (KERC) has issued an Order revising the tariff payable for Solar Rooftop and small photovoltaic power generation.

The revised tariff is applicable for PPA signed on or after 2ndMay 2016 and upto 31st March, 2018 with plants being commissioned during this period.

The Commission introduced gross metering for Domestic, Hospital and Educational institution consumers wherein consumers are allowed to sell entire energy generated by their solar rooftop and small PV plants to the ESCOMs irrespective of their self-consumption. Net-metering is applicable for Industrial, Commercial and all categories of consumers other than Domestic, Hospital and Educational institution categories wherein consumers are allowed to sell surplus energy generated by their solar rooftop and small PV plants to the ESCOMs after self-consumption.

KERC says that revision of tariff of solar rooftop and small PV plant is necessitated due to substantial decline in the capital cost.

ESCOMs in the State have already signed Power Purchase Agreements for substantial capacity addition of solar power, the commission in its present Order has decided to allow an aggregate capacity addition of only 400 MW by all the ESCOMs in the State for the effective period of this Order.
