Experts from 50 countries from power sector will discuss about the advanced solutions for grid modernization, FDI in smart infrastructure, e-mobility and future of transportation and renewable energy integration at the 3rd Edition of India Smart Grid Week.

The 3rd Edition of India Smart Grid Week (ISGW) is all set to kick start the four-day long event with veterans from across the globe. More than 200 internationally acclaimed experts in the field of energy, policymakers from the government and leaders will be a part in the event which is scheduled from 7-10 March, 2017 at Manekshaw Centre, New Delhi.  Experts from 50 countries from power sector will discuss about the advanced solutions for grid modernization, FDI in smart infrastructure, e-mobility and future of transportation and renewable energy integration at the 3rd Edition of India Smart Grid Week.

This year the participants at ISGW 2017 will witness bilateral workshops on smart grid technology such as Canada – India Smart Grid Workshop, India – European Union Smart Grid Workshop, Sweden- India Smart Grid Workshop and US– India Smart Grid Workshop. The initiative is supported by the Ministries of Power, New & Renewable Energy, Science & Technology, Environment, Forest and Climate Change, NITI Aayog, Make in India and several other international agencies. NTPC, Power Grid, front runners of the nominated smart cities are the new names who are joining for the first time this year.

Eminent speakers at the Smart Grid Week 2017 include Rob Stephen – President of CIGRE International; Alain R Steven – GO15.org (Formally known as VLPGO); Charles Bombardier – Inventor, Entrepreneur and Industrial Designer (Formerly with Bombardier Corporation); Dan Ton – US Department of Energy; Eija-Rlitta Korhola – Thinker, writer and former Member of European Parliament; Francois Vazille – Oracle Utilities Asia Pacific and Japan; Glen Pritchard – Exelon/PECO, USA; Kavitha Mohammad – Intel Asia Pacific Japan; Kunal Kumar – Pune Municipality; Laurent Schmitt – ENTSOE; N. Venu – ABB and many other leaders from the industry and utilities.

Speaking on the occasion, Reji Kumar Pillai, President, India Smart Grid Forum said, “Smart grids have emerged as a key enabling infrastructure to develop smart solutions to resolve India’s energy woes. Smart grids are also crucial to some of Indian government’s key projects such as 100 smart cities, 175 GW of renewable energy by 2022, 40 percent renewable energy by 2030, electric vehicles to combat air pollution and smart meters amongst others. Our requirements are very different from the western economies. Smart grid can help in selective load shedding for example turning of the load for air-conditioners or water pumps in off peak hours rather than load shedding across households which is what is happening now.

Meeting the constantly increasing energy needs of the country and supplying 24×7 reliable power to all citizens is a major challenge in India. With rapid growth and increasingly rising energy needs of the domestic and commercial sectors, India is working on several futuristic fronts to find sustainable solutions to meet its energy needs. Smart Grids are one of the several aspects of the solution. Power utilities, policy makers and other stakeholders are convinced of leveraging the evolving smart grid technologies in resolving some crucial lacunas in electricity delivery chain and this will be the key theme for the discussions at the 3rd edition of India Smart Grid Week.
