30 Anganwadi Centres In Hunsur Taluk To Tap Solar Energy: Report

Around 30 anganwadi centres in Hunsur taluk is reportedly gearing up to tap solar energy to beat the heat this summer. It is said to be the first such initiative in the State. The solar energy will be used to power fans and lights which can be operated for nearly 16 hours.

With the installation of solar panels, anganwadi centres expects to cope with the soaring temperatures and frequent power cuts in the rural outskirts. According to The Hindu anganawadi workers are doing all they can to make the children comfortable and get them to sleep in the afternoons.

Radha, Deputy Director, Department of Women and Child Development, speaking to the publication said that “adults themselves found it extremely difficult to withstand the summer heat and therefore the plight of the children was understandable.”

The solar panel installation project is expected to be around Rs. 3.5 lakh and the department is using the grants of zilla panchayat members for the project.
